AT&T Wants To Patent Self-Destructing Email System

How can you deal with data leaks via e-mail? You can encrypt the message, you can use many other techniques, and you can physically destroy emails. A new patent application filed by the operator AT & T, has done just that.

The company has applied for a patent of the new technology, which describes the self-destructing emails. E-Emails are not arrived in the recipient's mailbox and are waiting for the check, but come in the box at the time of user is online and are cleared independently of the will of the reader after a specified period of time. In this case, the letters themselves are destroyed, you can copy, save or forward, but at the request of the sender, all these letters can be removed at a specified time.

The new technology is called Method, System, and Apparatus for Providing Self-Destructing Electronic Mail Messages. It describes a system of so-called email-control servers that will work with these types of messages. It is possible to send an email from the control server a normal one only if the sender wants to do it. Of course, in an ordinary server the letter will become an ordinary one and lose the possibility of self-destruction.

AT&T said that now their system has some gaps in the implementation, but the company finds the very concept useful and interesting. The company said that the new system allows the sender to retain control over the data being transferred, even after they had gone to another server, in addition, it significantly complicates thejob of potential thieves. The most important advantage is its ability to destroy remotely  the message. The sender can set the time of destruction of rigid writing, after which the message will be removed anyway, regardless of whether it has been read or not.
