Yahoo! To Close Unused Email Accounts

Yahoo! will free a significant amount of user accounts and offer new users to register them. IT was reported by the newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing a source in the company.

It is expected that during the summer Yahoo! will release part of the e-mail addresses which users have not attended for more than 12 months. The Company expects that the released short and simple address will attract new users. While not reported, the company will offer as many addresses for re-registration, but a source in the company described the number as "significant."

Internet companies have traditionally hold different views on unused accounts. So, Gmail refuses to free unused addresses, as this can be dangerous for the user in terms of privacy. In turn, Microsoft reserves the right to delete your account if they are not used for 270 days. However, the company did not specify what percentage of these accounts are actually removed.

After the arrival in 2012 of a new head of Yahoo!-Marissa Mayer- the company is actively changing its policies to attract new users. In particular, the company acquired several online projects that are not typical for the Yahoo! audience, for example, hosting Tumblr (among whom there are many young people) and a news reader Summly, created by 17-year-old Briton. In addition, Yahoo! has closed a number of unprofitable services and changed the page layout.
