Apple Bought Topsy

Apple Inc. bought Topsy Labs, which analyses the content of social networks - Twitter, in particular. The deal with reference to Apple representatives was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Apple has not disclosed how much it paid for the company, but it is assumed that the deal cost more than 200 million dollars. Topsy Labs is based in San Francisco.

Topsy services let you know, for example, how often  a particular word was mentioned in  "tweets" or how the audience responded on Twitter. The company has free and paid (Pro) analytics tools.

Topsy has access to the entire Twitter database since 2006, ie since the launch of the service. Access is granted only to selected companies. Besides Topsy, they include, for example, Gnip and DataSift companies with similar services.

How Apple will use this company is still unknown. There are suggestions that the company will use it in iTunes, Siri, iAd and other corporate app solutions.
